Dexter Cattle for Sale

Chamel Fields Dexter Stud:  Breeding quality Dexters in black and red
from imported US, UK and South African bloodlines.

Vale: Chamel Fields Dixons Alliance.  Lance became poorly over 2010, and
met the most ignoble of ends for such a successful stud bull - into a tin.
His last calves are due from May, 2011, and here are the first two, the larger
one orphaned and taken on by the new one's mum.

Chamel Fields Halcyon with daughter CF Memory,
named after her deceased grandmother CF Sugarplum,
mother of Davey, the orphan.  Aren't Dexters wonderful?

                          The Dexter as a Breed
The Dexter breed is the original small cow of the UK, thought to originate from County Kerry in Ireland where the first stud book began in the 1880's. It developed in rough and hilly terrain and to this day is known for its resourcefulness and good foraging. The breed does not need prime pastures to thrive.
Because of their small size and mild temperament the Dexter is the ideal cow for the small landowner, easy on the soil and the right kind of cattle for those sensitive to sustainable agriculture.

Chamel Fields' Aim as a Stud:
                 - to assist in introducing new genetics into the gene

                - to breed only quality Dexters
                - to raise our cattle organically

                - to breed cattle free from the achondroplastic gene

Chamel Fields is a member of Dexter Cattle Association Inc. (SA Branch). We started small and plan to remain small.
The stud breeds red, simply because of a liking for the colour. Black animals are also available, occasionally with a hidden red gene.

Quality stock available.
